A recent KUTX Song of the Day featured an incredible collaborative work by two ATX badasses, The Bright Light Social Hour and Riders Against the Storm.
On the surface, this version of “The Sheriff” is an extension of the previous BLSH piece. But RAS’s powerful imagery is added fuel as the story unfolds. This time, the steadfast, driven beat marks a powerful shift in energy as truth rises to the surface. With its ominous tones and the dusky atmosphere of the new music video (directed by RAS’ Qi Dada with cinematography by Oswaldo Flórez), “The Sheriff” unravels the layers of police brutality.
“The take Riders Against the Storm has for ‘The Sheriff’ is the same as our general approach to our work,” Qi Dada explains. “The victory goes to the lion, not the hunter, once we listen to the lion’s story.”
Prepare yourself for a double-header show. To celebrate the release of the song and video, The Bright Light Social Hour and Riders Against the Storm perform tonight, Friday September 30, at The Parish. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m.
