Beyond the Square

Six Square, Austin’s Black cultural district, is presenting Beyond the Square Festival 2021, a weekend event and bike tour spotlighting Black music artists.

The celebration starts with a huge show tomorrow, Saturday June 5, at The Long Center, W. Riverside Dr., 701 W. Riverside Dr. Headlining is none other than the Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia, with Austin-based hip-hop duo Magna Carda rounding out the bill. DJ Kay Cali brings it all together at the turntables. Space is limited; doors open at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, June 6, Talib Abdullahi of Black History Bike Ride leads a cycle tour through the district, marking important spots such as the Victory Grill and the Doris Miller Auditorium, starting at 10 a.m. at the Texas Music Museum, 1009 E. 11th St. In case of inclement weather, the bike ride will be postponed until 1 p.m.
