Bleak Beauty

Right. It’s probably no surprise that The Dead Space‘s “Behind the Wall” from their 2014 debut Faker was an instant hit with your Austin Music Minute maven. Bassist and vocalist Quin Galavis, guitarist Garrett Hadden and drummer Jenny Arthur serve up post-punk with a perfectly desolate, brooding darkness that even Ian Curtis would approve of with a mournful grimace. There’s an urgency pulsating throughout Faker and its austere vibe, but the lyrics unveil a vulnerability, the kind of fragility one may find from feeling resigned to a miserable, grey fate. Dark? Without a doubt, and brilliantly so.

You have the chance to see The Dead Space play tonight at the Hole In the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe. And it’s a well-rounded night with Ghetto Ghouls, Beth Israel and Super Thief on the bill. Get there early to see all the bands. Recommended.
