Black Books‘ impressive 2013 self-titled debut, a sweeping expanse of shoegaze soundscapes, had fans pining for more right on the heels of their tour with super-sparkly surrealist warriors The Flaming Lips. But it would be awhile before the band was ready for the follow-up – four years, to be exact, while they worked diligently in Test Tube Audio on their next LP. Was it worth the wait? Oh, hell yes. The dreamy Can’t Even opens the floodgates to spectacular swirls and flows of psych-pop/shoegaze bliss.
Unleash the space rock anthems and irresistible refrains. Black Books has an album release show tomorrow night at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Palm Daze and Royal Forest are on the bill. The music starts at 10 p.m. Very recommended.
