This is not up for debate. It’s a fact. Even on the first listen of “Don’t Let Me Die In Waco” by Croy and The Boys from a 2019 episode of Song Confessional, you’ll be singing along with that irresistible chorus. Such a rip-roarin’ tune for such a dark and twisted tale. (Ditch the Febreeze, son. It doesn’t help.)
Songwriter Corey Baum learned so much about country music after moving to Austin from Bowling Green, OH more than 14 years ago. “I learned what a dance hall was and eventually, learned how to keep one moving all night long,” Baum says.
The thing is, when you hear Croy and The Boys, it’s as if Baum was born with country in his blood. And he has this poetic gift of turning the horribleness, wretchedness and outright chaos of the world into damn great music, sending out some hard-hitting truths with the perfect twang.
Start your Labor Day weekend with Croy and The Boys at 10 p.m. tonight at The White Horse on Comal.
