Love Austin Music Month: Bear Ryan

As we enter the remaining days of Love Austin Music Month, KUTX is here to remind you: The key is to show love for our local artists all year round, from buying artists’ music and going to shows, to supporting local nonprofits who support our artists, like the Austin Music Foundation. KUTX lists several ways to celebrate (and continue celebrating) right here.

Today’s AMM spotlight falls on an artist who’s been in love with music since she was just a kid listening to her family’s records. Raised in Roanoke, TX, Bear Ryan had been feeding her old soul with classic rock and the blues greats by the time she arrived in Austin in 1995. That musical love affair grew even stronger with exposure to all the music venues like The Continental Club, Threadgill’s, TC’s and Joe’s Generic Bar, and with all the inspired moments as vocalist and drummer with her band Red on Yellow.

Flying solo these days, Ryan builds with a style that’s raw and unpolished, which you get a feel for on her new track “Irene” (featured on today’s AMM). See the the new video for it below, and catch Bear Ryan at her show at 10 p.m. tomorrow night, Tuesday Jan. 24, at The Saxon Pub on S. Lamar.
