Ridin’ is Cuco’s love letter to L.A., the poetry of Chicano soul…
Check those hydraulics. L.A. artist Cuco cruises in with the sweetest, laid-back sounds of Chicano soul on his latest, Ridin’, with all reverence to lowriders, Chicano culture, and oldies music forever entwined with classic cars. In a way, Ridin’ is Cuco’s contemporary interpretation of old school sounds, embracing the environment he grew up in and the romance found on any traditional cumbias, románticas and boleros.
“There’s a different part of Mexican culture blowing up, and oldies have always been around,” Cuco told Billboard Español. “They influenced a lot of the romantic part of my music. Many people don’t really know that. But there’s a lot of layers to me. I wanted to make an album that felt more old school.”
Cuco’s back in the ATX for a show tonight at ACL Live at the Moody Theater. Doors at 8 p.m. Nos vemos.
