Love Austin Music Month: Curse Mackey tonight at Raven Room, with Jet Cemetery, Sinclair Noire, and DJ Night Ritualz.
“What monsters come after you
when you’re alone in the dark?”
This one’s for the dark hearts drawn to the multi-faceted talent of this artist’s music, visual creations, and every intense live performance. Today’s Love Austin Music Month feature winds you through the darkest chasms toward an outstanding presence in industrial and darkwave: Curse Mackey. Songwriter, vocalist, and prolific solo artist who’s also known for his work with My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, PIGFACE, and as frontman for San Antonio industrial outfit Evil Mothers.
The electronic maestro, author, and one-time vocalist for goth’s most revered band Bauhaus is also a stunning visual artist, working with a variety of mediums and occasionally creating paintings during his live shows shaped by the sound and movement of the performance. A new book, Mackey’s third, Sound Philosophy: An Artist’s Survival Guide, will be out this spring.
And now, a highly recommended show: Curse Mackey plays tonight at The Raven Room at Crow Bar, 523 Thompson Ln. It’s an excellent line up with dark electronic duo Jet Cemetery, gothic rock trio Sinclair Noire, and a DJ set by San Antonio artist Night Ritualz.
As of this writing, the show is still on and moved to an earlier time slot, with doors at 7 p.m. The weather will be dubious this weekend, but as The Gothmother quipped recently on Instagram, “Nothing screams ‘seasonal depression, but make it chic’ like cold synth.” Release the bats – wearing tiny scarves.
