The overarching arc is a kind of life cycle. The latest from the Don arrives born again with a different energy.
At one point, Milwaukee native Daijon Cotty Davis was at a crossroads as to whether play basketball or choose music. Both looked very promising, but what would shape the rest of his life? Music took the stronghold, because inspiration wouldn’t be placed on the back burner, giving DC the Don a chance to come alive.
Come As You Are was the first album to officially launch it all following a collection of EPs and singles, then the epic (internal) battle against the artist’s alter-ego came out swinging in My Own Worst Enemy, the torment slowly being laid to rest (or was it?) on the follow-up FUNERAL. We now come full circle with REBIRTH, as the Don sheds layers of his past work to unleash melodic hip-hop connecting to R&B, pop, and elements of gospel.
DC the Don brings his REBIRTH tour through the ATX for a performance tonight at The Parish. Doors at 7:30 p.m., with the show starting at 8:30 p.m.
