Your Austin Music Minute hostess found out about NYC-based quartet Black Taxi at a Good Danny‘s music showcase during SXSW a few years back, and it was love at first electro-beat. You can count Things of That Nature (2009) and We Don’t Know Any Better (2012) among two of my personal favorites from the dance pop/punk band. But they also love to push beyond the electro-pop boundaries, and to see them perform live gives you the full-on experience – a boundless, non-stop frenetic display of diverse musical styles that work the crowds up into a dancing frenzy.
Their next release, Electroshock Death Grip, is coming out next week, bringing more danceable poppy goodness with added old school disco-y and funk vibes in the mix. No doubt you’ll hear plenty of the new tracks at Black Taxi’s show tonight at Stubb’s, 801 Red River, on the indoor stage. Local pop/rock outfit O Conquerer will get the night off to a great start. Doors open at 9 p.m.
Prepare to move, baby. This is not a show to stand still at. So recommended.
