DJ Shadow in the house.
Many would say that DJ Shadow‘s 1996 debut LP was life-changing, mind-blowing at the very least. Endtroducing had all the movement, texture and multi-directional technique of a music lover/film nerd’s dream, helping usher in a new era for music artists inspired by Shadow’s use of such obscure musical and cinematic ephemera. Seriously, it’s a damn treasure trove sampling funk recordings assumed long lost, and intriguing sound bites from horror flicks that, especially out of context, added to the album’s insane brilliance. Speaking of treasure troves, that’s pretty much how DJ Shadow (a.k.a. producer Josh Davis) found all the vinyl gems he used for his mad creation – a deep dive into a record store basement teeming with forgotten records in endless stacks. The ultimate deep dive that requires thorough searches, endless listens – and patience, young Skywalker.
Witness the action live when DJ Shadow brings his Action Adventure tour to the ATX for a show tonight at Mohawk on Red River, on the outside stage. Doors at 7 p.m., with Lunice opening the show.
