The one description that kept popping into the mind of your humble Austin Music Minute host when describing Ethan Azarian and Jeff Johnston‘s 2014 album, Farmhouse Recordings, can be attributed to the all-encompassing title of a great book by Douglas Adams, the third in the Hitchiker’s Guide collection of insane and insanely funny novels. To put it as simply as possible: Farmhouse Recordings opens up to embrace life, the universe and everything.
You hear it in the wistful tones of Azarian’s sweet voice. You visualize it through the imagery within each track that reveals beauty in so many things, whether it’s relationships, heartbreak, growing up, or something as vast as the starry sky.
Join Ethan Azarian and Jeff Johnston for an early show tonight, 7-9 p.m., at the Hole In the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe. Nic Armstrong & The Thieves follow at 9:30 p.m. Recommended.
