Leo, Sean and Aaron are playing dumb again. Riffs, that is. Hear it all at Big Dumb Fest 2.
Gotta admit, Kevin Curtin put it best when he recently described Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol as “riff-lord unicorns.” Indeed, these doom fiends have locked and loaded the most ridiculously succinct riffs on their latest innards-churner, Big Dumb Riffs. We’re talking low ends, master chords, fuzzed out and ruthless. With a capital D. For DUMB. All caps.
Bassist Aaron Metzdorf says the band was determined to nail “the part” in each track – those unmistakable moments that define your favorite heavy songs. “The opening of Pantera’s ‘Primal Concrete Sledge’, the breakdown in Primus’ ‘Pudding Time’ — the shit that makes you move and lose your mind. Just that part the whole time,” Metzdorf explains. “Leo (Lydon) and I really move around on stage a lot. Being a dingus is crucial to the groove. All these riffs were designed to allow us to act bigger and dumber on stage.”
To unleash the idiotic riffs, RBBP brings back a big celebration: Big Dumb Fest 2, happening tonight at Mohawk on Red River, on the outdoor stage. It’s a killer line-up with Die Spitz, Billy King and the Bad Bad Bad, Mugger, Buzz Electro, BOSH and Banged Out. Doors at 6 p.m.
