He’s the Baum

Corey Baum doesn’t need to hem and haw about his background. He’ll tell you straight up.

Going to college, then switching majors, thinking that might make a difference, or following the straight and (too often) narrow path wasn’t going to cut it for the budding songwriter. At age 24, the native Ohioan basically said, “To hell with all this,” and set his sights on Austin. A friend dropped him off in the Live Music Capital, and here he was, with only his guitar and some clothes. He didn’t quite know what he was going to do, but that didn’t matter. The music came naturally; he was telling the story of where he was from, and the crazy uncertainties that lay ahead.

Now at 31, Baum is making music and making waves with Croy and The Boys, a local badass five-piece with strong country roots, although not strictly country music. Check ’em out for yourself. Don’t miss Croy and The Boys tonight at The White Horse, 500 Comal, at midnight. Finger Pistol starts out the evening at 8 p.m., followed by The Gin Racers at 10 p.m.

Party on a Tuesday? Why not? Recommended.
