There’s a special place in Amy Annelle’s heart for the iconic Austin music venue.

Amy Annelle residency starts tonight at Hole In the Wall

Amy Annelle will be the first to tell you that “gratitude” barely scratches the surface. Dealing with years of chronic illness may have slowed things down in Annelle’s musical career, but if anything, it made the Austin songwriter/musician more determined than ever in her two-plus decades as a standout voice in beautifully nuanced folk. From countless collaborations to a renown Townes Van Zandt “Buckskin Stallion Blues” cover, every single step along the way shaped the creation of her latest LP, her most visceral release to date, The Toll, cathartic observations tracing relationships and transformative moments in time.

This week, Annelle kicks off a residency at Hole In the Wall, not only an iconic spot in Austin musical history, but something of a special moment frozen in time for Annelle as she graces the very stage that so many of her heroes played, like Van Zandt and Lucinda Williams. Cath Amy Annelle and The Velvet Hand at 10 p.m. tonight, sharing a bill with Dwight Smith (11 p.m.), and pedal steel master Bob Hoffnar with guitarist/composer Chris McQueen (9 p.m.).
