Just Kids

There’s a good chance local music fans might recognize Brendan Bond from several bands he plays with, whether it’s A. Sinclair, Golden Dawn Arkestra, or Matthew Logan Vasquez. But, time for a full disclosure here: Your humble Austin Music Minute host was a bit late in the game upon discovering that Bond has a twin brother, Andrew.

The sibs went to different high schools, attended colleges in different states, then eventually settled in different parts of the country; Brendan made Austin his home, while Andrew was living on the East Coast, where he performed with Brooklyn-based band Friends. So how on earth did they reconnect? Music, of course. “We spent so much time apart, but both have this artistic desire for simplicity,” Brendan explains.

Their individual styles clicked well together, and you can hear the results of their collaboration on the Bond Twins new EP, Just Kids. Hear the new tunes at their EP release show at 9 p.m. tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. And it’s going to feel like family night with friends Magic Rockers of Texas, Slomo Drags, and Lola Tried on the bill. All of this madness on the heels of the big GBH show happening a bit earlier on the outside stage. A party and a half. Very recommended.
