Dancing, perhaps with tears in one’s eyes… Midge Ure brings Catalogue: The Hits Tour to Austin.
You instantly know the voice, whether it’s “Dancing With Tears In My Eyes,” or the hypnotic “Vienna” with the vocals that pierce your very soul.
After Ultravox went on a brief hiatus in the early ‘80s, Midge Ure made a solo debut in 1985 with The Gift. It was only the beginning of an extensive collection of recordings that would continue well into the 2010’s. Eight studio albums and fifteen live LPs later, in addition to numerous other projects outside of music, Ure and his “Band In A Box” are doing an international tour revisiting fan favorites and special rarities. Just don’t expect an orchestra-level full stage. That’s not how he’s rolling these days.
“Lots of people asking me to clarify what ‘Band in a Box’ actually is,” Ure says. “It consists of myself on electric guitar, synthesizer and vocals alongside my long time keyboard player Charlie Round-Turner playing live with various loops, samples and programmed drums. A band in a box! This format allows me to perform a full band performance with a ’stripped down’ duo.”
Midge Ure’s Catalogue: The Hits Tour comes through Austin for a show tonight, Thursday Sept. 5, at ACL Live at 3Ten. Doors at 8 p.m.
