Música Para la Gente

Vamos a bailar. Let Superfónicos lead the way.

The 7-plus Austin-based outfit rocks a blend of Columbian funk and Caribe soul, powered by multiple indigenous, African and Columbian roots that inspired their formation. Bassist Nico Sanchez and guitarist Erick Bohorquez had ideas of creating a supergroup following their experience at the 2014 Latin Alternative Music Conference in New York. Hardly surprising that, as the band evolved, they would soon join forces with another mover and shaker in the scene, Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Adrian Quesada, to record tracks at Quesada’s Level One Sound. Pura magica.

Don’t miss the party tonight when Superfónicos performs at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. The powerhouse bill includes sets by Afro-Latin megaband Cilantro Boombox, and those vaqueros de vallenato La Frenetika. It’s all going down on the inside stage after 9 p.m., following the Rebirth Brass Band show on the outside stage. So recommended.
