Of Course You Knew

At times, it’s overwhelming to think about, but local ensemble Mother Falcon has at least 17 members contributing their talents to their collective sound. It’s incredible. Imagine organizing a rehearsal for the band.

But this is a dedicated – and extremely busy – group of musicians. They’ll be in New York City all next month, with a West Coast tour scheduled for August, and will somehow make time in between to conduct a summer orchestra music lab at the Austin Scottish Rite Theater in late July. All this, on top of releasing a new album earlier this week, You Knew.

As with their first full-length Alhambra (2011), Mother Falcon artfully connects indie pop-rock with exquisite classical arrangements on their latest work. It’s an exhilarating listen with dramatic builds and climactic finales, elaborate strings and harmonies, all pulled together for an overall emotive experience.

Join Mother Falcon at their album release show tonight at The Belmont, 305 W. 6th St. They share the bill with The Lost Bayou Ramblers and Hello Wheels. A killer triple bill if ever I saw. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
