Doesn’t take long to figure out that The Regrettes are no shrinking violets. The young L.A.-based band, formed by front woman Lydia Night, delivers rock in the punk vein, frantic and anxious energy abound, with a ‘50s and ‘60s pop aesthetic that makes it all the more infectious. But there’s more bubbling beneath the surface that shapes the badass attitude; the refreshing honesty of the tracks on their LP Feel Your Feelings Fool! stems from Night laying out every kind of insecurity and imperfection on the table to rant over. It’s unleashing all the frustration without giving a damn about what others may think.
“I am not scared of anyone judging me, I don’t care,” Night says. “For every person that likes you, there’s a person that doesn’t like you. No matter what, if people can relate to the music then it’s worth it. That’s what is cool for me.”
Don’t miss The Regrettes tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show opens with a set by Detroit artist Stef Chura. Recommended.
