Polite Society

Tonight is night two of LA punk OG’s Circle Jerks taking over the stage at Mohawk. That’s two nights in Austin on the band’s first tour in over 15 years, and the hardcore fans are here for it. This is a band that paved the way, and have one hell of a legacy to prove it – not to mention some seemingly unlikely fans.

Along the way, the torch gets passed on to the next generation of annihilators. One of those bands to keep on your radar is ATX hardcore outfit Bondbreakr, a (relatively) new band that rattled ribcages at this year’s SXSW, and has played shows with the likes of H.R. (Bad Brains), Gregg Turner (former Angry Samoans), Atlanta’s Dead Register, and ATX bands Hellfury, F**k Money and Pleasure Venom. They’ve described their sound as grime, noise and metal crashing headlong into one another at a crossroads, resulting in a psych-rage punk rock carnage.

Today’s AMM featured track is the blistering “Polite Society,” confronting racial and social injustice at the height of the pandemic, though the band notes the lyrics feel as relevant as ever. Bondbreakr and South Texas punks Worm Suicide are playing tonight’s Circle Jerks aftershow on the inside stage at the Mohawk, 912 Red River. Doors at 9:30 p.m., and it’s an all-ages event. Go for it.
