The whole point of Project ATX6 is to bring Austin music to the rest of the world. For this year’s group, selected by Project ATX6 founder and coordinator Chris Brecht, it’s been a whirlwind of activity and travel to achieve that very goal.
The 2016 itinerary has included a trip to Austin’s sister city, Angers, France, for Austin Week in September (KUTX feature story here), an indie music showcase in the UK in October, and now a visit to Toronto for Indie Week showcases next week. Then, the crew returns to Austin for a huge, celebratory homecoming concert, “Bringing It All Back Home,” scheduled for December 7th at Stateside at the Paramount, with performances by this year’s ATX6, a handful of ATX6 alumni, a special presentation by Austin Chronicle writer Kevin Curtin, and the world premiere of a new documentary short about Project ATX6. Shot by Brecht over the course of these many journeys, the film takes an intimate look at the work, commitment, struggle, and all the love that goes into making one’s art come to life.
Full disclosure: Your Austin Music Minute host will join the Project ATX6 crew on their Toronto trip. But before heading out, there’s a show to do! Come and support the Project ATX6 crew at their benefit show tonight at the Hard Luck Lounge, 3526 E. 7th St. It’s an early show that starts at 7 p.m., and will feature sets by all six artists: Jai Malano, Elijah Ford, Grace Park, Tate Mayeux, Beth Chrisman and Andy Bianculli. Your AMM host will be on hand as emcee and general trouble-maker. Kidding! Or…am I?
See you tonight.
