One of the best things about doing the Austin Music Minute is the personal discovery of somewhat hidden local music gems, those unexpected surprises that give one pause: “Why didn’t I know about this band? Where have you all been? This is great!” Such is the case with Isaiah the Mosaic, the psych synth-rock quintet that succeeded in blowing me away after my first listen to their 2013 debut EP, Systems.
The local quintet has been playing together since 2011. Among their influences are the early, more progressive and experimental styles of Pink Floyd and Genesis, as well as contemporary favorites like Tame Impala and indie-electronic band Broadcast. They’re about to launch a massive Kickstarter campaign next month in support of their forthcoming full-length release, to be produced by none other than Danny Reisch.
Make sure you see Isaiah the Mosaic play tonight at the Spider House Ballroom, 2906 Fruth St. This will be a damn fine show all around, chock full of psyched-up experimental bliss, featuring local bands My Education, The Weird Weeds and Startographer. All good. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
