For six years, the members of Young Tongue made music under the moniker The Baker Family, with husband and wife Stu & Liz Baker at the helm. Last year, they released a new EP (Cat Calls) with a new name and a fuller, tighter approach to their already rich, mesmerizing sound.
This year brings the release of their full-length debut, Death Rattle, which is far more alive and vibrant than the title might suggest – flowing across a broad spectrum of dream-pop and prog-rock, paired with percussion work that carries a raw, rudimentary feel. It’s a balance of intricate, complex melodies with rhythms that are right at home on the dance floor.
Young Tongue is having a big release party tonight at Cheer Up Charlie’s, 901 Red River, with a spectacular bill including Modern Medicine, Chipper Jones, Boyfrndz and Capyac. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music starts at 8:30 p.m. So recommended.
