Let’s just call this one a mountain of magnificence. On the one hand, you’ve got a genuine, captivating crowd-pleaser who will most likely fill up the room wall-to-wall and knock ’em dead. On the other hand, you have one heck of a solid line-up to start out the night featuring artists, quite talented in their own right, who could headline their own shows on any given occasion. And they have. This show is a dream come true for the Austin Music Minute maven. If I wasn’t going to be on the air tonight…
Shakey Graves (songwriter Alejandro Rose-Garcia) is concluding his January Wednesday-night residency this evening at The Parish. There are busy times ahead with another tour starting in late February, so he’ll be preparing for that. But tonight is the night for a huge finale, and that’s exactly what you’ll get with this show. Not only will you get to see Shakey Graves, definitely a favorite round these parts, but you’ll also see an incredible set of bands to start the night out right. Seriously. Each one of these bands are AMM faves:
-Their performances have moved me to tears, my friend. Stomp-folk four-piece Hello Wheels will get you on your feet in no time.
-I’ve declared him one of my all-time favorite artists, hands down, and one amazing performer. Meet the greatness that is Jack Wilson.
-I first saw this band thanks to my friend and colleague Adi Anand. Rock ‘n’ roll doesn’t even begin to cover it. Self-described post-garage rock “for neo-tods,” Three Leaf, hits the stage first. And you won’t be disappointed.
This is all going down tonight at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music starts at 9 p.m. Get there early to see every one of these bands. Do it. Recommended.
