Alex Maas and Christian Bland, doin’ what they do but solo.
When they’re not melting faces as The Black Angels, Alex Maas and Christian Bland have additional impressive projects to brag about in their respective catalogues. Christian Bland and The Revelators are a frequent presence on the Hotel Vegas/13th Floor circuit, and The UFO Club, Bland’s guitar-focused collab with Night Beats‘ Lee Blackwell, melds ’50s rock vibes into ’60s Pink Floyd-era psych trips. In addition to striking solo recordings like the album Luca, Maas also creates fantastic aural alchemy as part of the super group MIEN, featuring Rishi Dhir (Elephant Stone), Tom Furse (The Horrors) and John-Mark Lapham (The Earlies).
All of this, not to mention that The Black Angels are the founders of Austin Psych Fest, which also gave way to the mammoth known as LEVITATION.
But now, time to wind it down a bit with something special for the fans. Maas and Bland will present some solo sessions this Friday, Feb. 23, at a Luxeart space located at 110 E. Live Oak St. in South Austin, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for Vancerts Presents: A Psychedelic Tribute. Gus Baldwin and dynamic duo Gran Moreno are on the bill. This one’s a must-see.
