It all began with a random meeting at the Wednesday night Songwriter’s Circle at Cheatham Street Warehouse – a veritable hotbed of talented individuals coming together to mutually inspire and collaborate (Austin Music Minute fave Tex Smith was a regular fixture). Kyle-Matthew Taylor, Wes Maxwell and Luke Williams discovered they had much in common, musically, and decided to pursue their interests together as a band. The Canvas People made their official debut with a self-titled EP, and followed that with this year’s full-length indie-folk release, Sirens.
This is definitely one to see live; their vocals alone are enough to knock you off your feet. You can see The Canvas People tonight at Spider House Ballroom, 2906 Fruth St. And it’s a triple bill treat featuring songwriter Chris Strand (backed by his band, the Sinners), and the fabulous early jazz/country/blues outfit The Parish Festival. Doors open at 9 p.m. Get there early to see all three. Recommended.
