The Austin Music Minute is pleased to bring you the sounds of a band embracing the unknown. Local quintet (and AMM fave) Obscured By Echoes is here to remind you that there is no dark side. It’s all dark. And, whilst peering deep into the endless abyss, there is ample time for, in the words of Poe, “dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”
Obscured’s album Black Matter Manifesto (2013) is a hypnotic trip into those fields of darkness, unfolding multiple layers of lo-fi psych-rock with unusual melodies, waves of reverb and fuzz, and something creeping into the peripheral vision of the mind’s eye, phantom images that linger behind long after the trip is over.
Make sure you see Obscured By Echoes tonight at the Historic Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. The bill includes performances by prog-psych trio Groove Think, ambient noise rock duo De Palma, and dream pop chillwavers Atlas Owls. Excellent bill all around. Doors open at 7 p.m. So recommended.
