Telescreens at Antone’s

They always hit the ground running. Telescreens takes over Antone’s tomorrow night.

AMM May 24 2024

Telescreens plays Saturday night at Antone’s, with TC Superstar, Slurp the World and Dress Warm.

If a band’s soundcheck is any indication of their performance, Telescreens catches you off guard with merely a fraction of the energy you’re about to be blasted with. Case in point: The glorious bombardment of one December night last year at the Far Out Lounge and Stage. Following their check, the sound person suggested a five-minute break before the actual set to maybe retrieve some drinks or whatever.

Telescreens’ Jackson Hamm wasn’t having it. “We can hit it now, if that’s cool.”

No need for build-ups or soft starts. Hamm and his fierce crew hit the chords from the get-go, and there was no turning back. Of course, when there’s that crop of fools standing around with their arms folded, or the space is acting like it needs an adrenalin shot, the lead vocalist/guitarist keeps them in check. “I thought it was Friday night,” quips Hamm at Far Out. “Do I got my days wrong?! Thought it was Friday night! Y’all can move around!

Not for nothin’ does this band carry a reputation for high-octane performances, whether it’s in Austin or back home in NYC, where Telescreens played their first sold-out headlining show at Bowery Ballroom.

This year, Telescreens plays the first weekend of ACL Fest, but you’d best take advantage of seeing them tomorrow night, Saturday May 25, at Antone’s. Howdy Gals is hosting this killer soirée, with Austin bands TC Superstar, Slurp the World and Dress Warm on the line-up. Doors at 7 p.m. And, as Hamm himself will tell you, rock ‘n’ roll lives.
