The Different Sides of Brownout

Just the very name Brownout brings an immediate assumption that’s totally on the mark: You are in for one incredible show. The mighty octet comes at you with all manner of Latin, funk, R&B and soul, not to mention a bit of rock and even of hip-hop in the flavor, so sitting still is not an option. Con El Brownout, no se juega. Get ready to move.

This month, the band is putting an intriguing twist on their performances for their residency at Frank, 407 Colorado. They’re playing there each Thursday night, including tonight, but with a special musical theme for each show. Tonight, the band takes on the entire soundtrack to the notorious 1973 blaxploitation action pic, Black Caesar, originally recorded by the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. Imagine all the fun they’re going to have with that one (and for those of us geeks who have actually seen the film, it’ll be even more exciting). Next week, they’ll present “Brownout II: Electric Boogaloo,” featuring special guest DJ Maheleani, unleashing classic back beats and old-school hip-hop delights. The following Thursday, Brownout really gets crazy with “Brown Sabbath,” with – you guessed it – Brownout playing music by Black Sabbath.

It’s all live and ready to blow your mind. Can you handle it? Of course you can. Experience the Black Caesar soundtrack in the way only Brownout could do it tonight at Frank. Doors open at 10 p.m., and the music starts at 10:30 p.m. So recommended it hurts.
