Vamos al Festival

It’s another Austin Music Minute favorite. This weekend, Pachanga Fest 2013 takes over Fiesta Gardens with another set of fantastic line-ups and massive headliners. Guaranteed party time, people. And there’s always something for everyone.

Pachanga always provides a refreshing mix of local and touring musical artists who offer a little bit of everything in both old school and contemporary musical genres. Whether it’s young artists performing the music of their grandparents or great-grandparents to share with a broader audience, or musicians applying new grooves, beats, electronic or hip-hop styles that breathe new life into traditional sounds, it’s a great introduction to different varieties of Latino music. These artists are literally redefining what “Latino” music means, eliminating the common misconception that it’s only one specific kind of music done in one language.

AMM has a few recommended artists to check out this year: Tonight’s festival openers –  eight-piece Latin-fusion band Este Vato, Mexican pop group 3Ball MTY and Tejano/Norteño band Intocable; tomorrow…well, pretty much everybody who’s performing, but some stand-outs include Los Lobos, Y La Orkesta, Grupo Fantasma, Los Rakas, Como Las Movies, Celso Piña, Gina Chavez, and the one and only Flaco Jimenez.

Whew! Get on out to Pachanga Fest at Fiesta Gardens, 2101 Jesse Segovia, and bring the whole family with you. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. tonight, then again at noon tomorrow. Check the Pachanga website for the performance schedule, including the Niños Rock kids’ stage.

And whatever you do, don’t leave the dance shoes at home. Recommended.
