Want

The last release by Austin-based outfit Young Tongue was their gorgeous 2014 album Death Rattle, so your humble Austin Music Minute host has been eagerly anticipating new music from the prog-energized dream pop weavers. It has arrived; yesterday, the band premiered the new track “Want,” serving up every bit of the “bombastic, inter-galactic, oceanic ear reward” they promised.

The journey is a recollection, navigating the aquatic depths, sailing toward a dark storm with sweeping waves of haunted melodies. On one side lies the desire to reveal all; on the other, the idea of intentionally dissolving the memories of whatever’s happened. Dual vocalists Stu Baker and Liz Baker offer a glimpse into one possibility: “Maybe when the tide is down/maybe we can find the shore/Then maybe we can talk about/the life I’m trying to forget…”

Instant AMM fave. And you can hear it live when Young Tongue plays tonight at Swan Dive, 615 Red River. The bill includes Madison, WI electro-pop duo Oh My Love, New Orleans fuzzed-up garage rockers Bantam Foxes, and all the way From the Land of Insofaras, avant-garde folk rockers Batty Jr. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Recommended.
