Black History Bike Ride

My KUTX // June 13th, 2026

Maybe it’s the lack of physical boundaries that you find in a car, but cyclists have always shown an extra sense of connection to their local communities, be it roads, homes, or familiar faces. For Talib Abdullahi, the desire to bring more awareness to Austin’s rich Black History felt like the perfect pairing with a group bike ride. And with that, Black History Bike Ride was born.

Speaking of perfect pairings, Talib’s best friend (and former KUTX Artist of the Month) Daniel Fears helped shape the soundtrack to Black History Bike Ride’s latest success – the documentary Cycles of Resilience: A Journey Through Austin’s Black History – which premieres on June 17th at AFS Cinema. Ahead of Black History Bike Ride’s annual Juneteenth Ride (happening Sunday, June 21st), Talib and Daniel celebrated Daniel Fears Day by sharing some of the tracks that back Cycles of Resilience, including some that didn’t quite make the cut, but featuring a ton of contemporary and historic Austin talent.
