Over the past decade, Riders Against The Storm has established itself as one of the leading lights in the Austin music scene. Founded by Chaka and Qi Dada, the duo’s unique take on hip hop has garnered a handful Austin Chronicle Music Awards and cover stories. Their events–Body Rock ATX and RAS Day–celebrate hip hop culture with live performances, dance parties, and more. Chaka also contributes heavily to the music community through his work with DAWA Fund, which provides financial assistance to musicians, artists, therapists, members of the service industry and social workers of color in Austin. DAWA Fund will be reopening its direct cash assistance program next month.
This week on My KUTX, Chaka returns as our guest DJ to kick off Black History Month with an hour of his particular sonic roots, spanning rap pioneers like the Last Poets, modern luminaries like Kendrick Lamar and Little Simz, and RAS’s own Austin collaborations. Hear Chaka’s My KUTX on Saturday, February 4 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime at the top of the page.
