Nakia gained worldwide fame after appearing on the debut season of The Voice in 2011, but that was after years of cutting his teeth around Austin as a blues singer. For his new album, Blues Grifter, he’s turned his attention back to his roots with a collection of blues covers. You can hear Nakia live in our Studio 1A on August 14 ahead of the album release and Waterloo in-store on August 17, and on August 18 he’s at the Saxon Pub. But before all that, Nakia is our guest DJ this week on My KUTX. He plays the original blues songs that inspired his new album and gives his own personal account of what these songs mean to him as a singer and blues afficionado. Hear Nakia’s My KUTX on Saturday, August 11, 6 to 7 p.m. or anytime at the bottom of the page.
