Never is the KUTX Artist of the Month for November 2023, powered by PNC Bank.
The Austin band Never grew around Emily No Good’s bedroom recordings, and across its six song EP No Guarantee, the group retains that simplicity and directness. “Hard To Go,” a recent favorite on KUTX, laments a relationship that’s run its course but still lingers: “Why is it so hard to go? / I don’t want to be alone.” The fact that such a tense, defeated feeling is propped up by a buoyant and fun bass groove is the key to Never’s particular sweet/sour charm.
Never plays Hotel Vegas on November 30 and is set to release new music soon, and this week, Emily is also our guest DJ. Her set features favorites like Parquet Courts as well as a lot of curveballs, from spiritual jazz and Arabic synth pop to abstract electronic and bedroom rap. Hear Never’s My KUTX on Saturday, November 25 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime right here.
