Pooneh Ghana

My KUTX // January 6, 2024

Pooneh Ghana has toured with Beck, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, and Courtney Barnett, made music videos for Broncho, worked with Pitchfork, Fender, and Matador Records–and it all started in Austin. The photographer first fell into the local scene over a decade ago, covering Austin’s burgeoning psych rock sound and festivals all over town. It soon led to work as an in-demand tour photographer and band chronicler–I tend to get at least one Pooneh-shot press photo a week from a band. Her photography is rich and recognizable, merging digital techniques with a love for vintage film stock.

Recently, Pooneh has also tried her hand at show booking, which is a longtime passion and goal of hers. Her first show featured tour buddies Broncho, and the next Pooneh Presents happens January 27 at Radio East. It features the Nashville oddball punk outfit Snõõper along with homegrown talent from Font and Tear Dungeon. This week on My KUTX, Pooneh helps kick off Love Austin Music Month with some Austin favorites, great bands she’s toured with, coming-of-age classics, and more. Here Pooneh Ghana’s My KUTX on Saturday, January 6 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime right here.
