Sasami Ashworth spent years as an in-demand multi-instrumentalist, playing with King Tuff, Cherry Glazerr, and more before debuting on her own in 2019. Her self-titled effort fit in the indie-rock lineage, but for this year’s Squeeze, Sasami threw out the playbook. The record highlights her chameleon-like shifts: there are acoustic ballads, electronic jams, and metal-inspired shredding (Megadeth’s drummer Dirk Verbeuren even appears on the album). This multi-faceted ability is a big reason we named her a KUTX One To Watch for SXSW.
This week, Sasami brings this adventurous sound to Austin, so we’re rebroadcasting her 2019 My KUTX episode. She spends the guest DJ set celebrating many of her friends, collaborators, and tour buddies. Hear Sasami’s My KUTX on Saturday, March 19 at 6 p.m. or listen anytime at the top of the page.
