Ever since landing in Austin in the 1970s, Grammy-winning recording artist Ray Benson and his band Asleep at the Wheel have been reinventing Western swing for generations of fans and in the process gave the city one of its signature sounds. Benson and the gang keep the wheel rolling with a new take on the classic rockabilly song “Seven Nights to Rock.” Originally recorded by Moon Mullican in the 1950s “Seven Nights to Rock” has been covered by some of the biggest names in music including, Bruce Springsteen, Nick Lowe, Steven Van Zandt, and Bryan Adams. Asleep at the Wheel brings the song back to its rockabilly roots on their new album New Routes and filmed this awesome video as a tribute to some of their favorite clubs in Austin. The video kicks off with bandleader, Ray Benson counting down, “seven, we got seven, seven, seven nights to rock,” followed by the same cheers you hear at the band’s live show. So pull on those boots and get ready to rock with Asleep at the Wheel!
