The theme of this year’s Austin Music Awards is “All Roads Lead to Austin,” and it seems that every vehicle on those roads is dialed into 98.9 KUTX. For the first time in the history of the awards show, there will be two hosts – and they are two of the most enthusiastic DJs at KUTX!
Laurie Gallardo, curator of the Austin Music Minute, the Good Music Club, and weeknights Monday through Thursday on KUTX, will bring her love for all things Austin to the awards show. Rick McNulty, pop musicologist and host of Friday’s Left of the Dial and Saturday afternoons on 98.9, is also excited to join the fray of Austin music legends appearing onstage all night.
“This is going to be a swinging party,” McNulty says, “with surprise guests and some of the finest talent in town.” There will be music sets dedicated to local divas as well as an Austin High School reunion of musicians. The house band will be led by Charlie Sexton and there will be a tribute to the beloved Ian McLagan.
KUTX Program Director Matt Reilly said, “I’m really excited to have Rick and Laurie host the Music Awards. They are both so active in the music scene, and their energy will be a great addition to an already exciting night. Out of all of us at the station, they really live the Austin Music Experience the most.”
Showtime is 7:55 p.m. sharp on Wednesday. You can purchase tickets at Waterloo Records or online here.
