It’s been over two decades since the Mexico City guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela unleashed their hyper-driven flamenco-based rock. Now on a lengthy world tour in support of their sixth album, In Between Thoughts… A New World, a record they say was born of a spiritual awakening, the pair recently made an Austin stop at ACL Moody Theatre to tape an upcoming episode of Austin City Limits. There, the KUTX crew caught up with them during soundcheck to film a couple of songs.
From the streets of Ireland to Grammy awards and command performances at Royal Albert Hall and the White House, Rodrigo Y Gabriela have been on a long musical sojourn, incorporating elements of classic rock, heavy metal, orchestras, electronics, film scores – all united by their singular passion and intensity.
