Charlie Faye is no newcomer to the Austin scene. First landing here in 2009, Faye garnered attention for her efforts to preserve artist housing on Wilson St. in South Austin and a well-recieved debut album named after the street. Since then, Faye has released several albums in the Americana vein, winning accolades from American Songwriter and Americana Music Association. Now a veteran of the Austin scene, Faye recruited some of the city’s best, Akina Adderly and Betty Soo, to follow her in a new musical direction, specifically, towards the soulful sounds of Muscle Shoals and the bright harmonies of 60s girl groups. Their new self-titled album was made both here and in Los Angeles with the help of local producer David Way and brought them to the attention of SXSW bookers for the 2016 festival. Charlie Faye & The Fayettes brought the 60s vibe to Studio 1A before hitting 3Ten Austin for their monthly Wine Down Happy Hour on Wednesday, May 31st.
