Austin-based musician Christy Hays and her band Caliche serve up electrified folk for a brooding sunset.
Drawing comparisons to Lucinda Williams, Hays creates a distinct combination of folk, country, psych rock, and Americana, her clear vocal tone draping over guitar-driven melodic tunes. Formed after Hays relocated to Austin in 2012, Caliche is comprised of Lauren Gurgiolo (Okkerville River) on guitar, Geena Spigarelli (My Jerusalem) on bass, and Andrew Gerfers (Paula Nelson) on drums, marking a shift to a fuller and moodier sound. On the heels of 2014’s mainly acoustic and, at times, gentle folk offering “O’Montana,” Christy Hays and Caliche are now set to release their self-titled EP this week.
You can catch Christy Hays and Caliche performing live at Stay Gold on May 29th and you can stream their music right here on KUTX.
