Eric Johnson & Mike Stern @ KUTX 02.16.2015

Guitarists Eric Johnson and Mike Stern have teamed up, bringing us a groovy concoction of traditional sounds.

Austin rock and blues guitarist Eric Johnson started garnering great interest and praise at a young age, featuring on albums by the likes of Cat Stevens, Carole King, and Christopher Cross before releasing his solo debut album Tones in 1986, officially launching a career that has spanned three decades and earned countless accolades. Throughout his career, celebrated jazz guitarist Mike Stern, has also collaborated with great names, such as Miles Davis, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Michael Brecker, and Jaco Pastorius, with 16 studio albums to his name. Meeting after Stern invited Johnson to play on his 2009 release Big Neighborhood, these two legendary musicians came together in 2014 to release Eclectic. A steady combination of jazz, blues, rock, and funk, the album features original songs (the one exception being a cover of Hendrix’s “Red House”) with Chris Maresh on bass, Anton Fig on drums, Leni Stern on n’goni and vocals, and Christopher Cross backing vocals, each track an energetic demonstration of skill.
