Kelly Willis & Radio Ranch 1.20.16

Kelly Willis’ music has been described as contemporary country, alt-country, Americana, new traditionalist, and a number of other loosely defined subgenres. Whatever genrefictation fits best, her music has been revered by critics and fans alike for over twenty years.  Kelly Willis was just out of high school when she moved with her band, the Fireballs, from D.C. to the verdant pastures of Austin’s blooming music scene. Unfortunately, the band broke up six months after arriving. However, following the dissolution of the Fireballs, Willis and her then husband, Mas Palermo, formed a new band called Radio Ranch. This month, Willis, Palermo, bassist Brad Fordham, and guitarists David Murray and Mike Hardwick, celebrate the 25th anniversary of their major label debut, Well Traveled Love with a few shows, beginning with a sold out performance at the Cactus Cafe. Luckily, you can listen to their set at Studio 1A here, or see them at Gruene Hall on the 23rd, the Continental Club on the 30th, and Strange Brew on the 31st.
