Singer/songwriter Kris Gruen shakes the dust off folk music with a deeply soulful voice and melodic songwriting in the vein of The Avett Brothers or Ryan Adams. Those may seem like some pretty heady comparisons until you take a look at Gruen’s bona fides. With four studio albums, international tours with Jesse Malin and more recently Alejandro Escovedo, and a film score under his belt, Kris Gruen is quickly establishing himself as a standard bearer of the new folk scene. Those continent spanning adventures with other musicians played a big part in his newest LP Coast & Refuge and even includes some of the friends the picked up along the way, like Peter Morén of Peter, Bjorn, & John on the song “Every Day And Night Now”. Kris Guen stopped by Studio 1A to play us a couple songs from the new album on his way to The Cactus Cafe. Take a listen to the session in the player at the bottom of the post and be sure to follow Kris Gruen with the links below.
