Are you missing the twang of a banjo in your life? Do you need a dose of bluegrass to set you straight? Austin bluegrass band, The Lost Pines may be your fix. The band formed in 2007 when Talia Bryce (guitar, lead vocals) and Christian Ward (banjo, lead vocals) began swapping songs at backyard barbecues and campfire get togethers. Lead guitarist, Mark Lionetti was the next to join the group and the three of them released their first record Middle of the Morning (2008). The album received critical acclaim and landed them appearances on KUT, KGSR, Fox News, and more. Soon they were playing regular gigs at some of Austin’s finest venues, including Cactus Cafe, Saxon Pub, and Antone’s. Mandolin player, Alex Rueb, fiddle player, Eddie Dickerson, and bass player, Kyle Clayton were added to the mix next and the band was complete. By early 2011 Lloyd Maines (Dixie Chicks) was producing their second album, Sweet Honey (2011). Following its release recognition for the band skyrocketed, going far beyond the Austin city limits to DJs throughout the U.S. and Canada, Europe, and Australia. According to Alternate Root Magazine, “Like the album title suggests, the songs included in ‘Sweet Honey’ go down easy.” We agree. Catch them here live at 12:30 p.m. Thursday January 30.
