When you hear the name Mike Doughty, you may think of 90s alt-rock band Soul Coughing. But despite founding the group, Doughty has since tried to distance himself from Soul Coughing’s image and sound to develop his own solo following. While Doughty’s roots lie in alternative rock, he often incorporates hip-hop and EDM elements into his tracks to differentiate his sound from other rock songwriters.
In 2013 Doughty added a fresh hip-hop twist on his early compositions with the release of Circles Super Bon Bon, an album of re-imagined Soul Coughing songs. This year marks the release of a new crowd-funded studio album and live album. Stellar Motel and Live at Ken’s House have both been well received by critics, with Stellar Motel reaching #66 on the US charts. Now Doughty continues his national tour with a stop in the Live Music Capital. You can see Mike Doughty’s next show at the Cactus Cafe on Wednesday, October 22nd!
