South Austin Moonlighters 2.3.2016

When four established musicians decide to join forces and play together just because it’s fun, you’re going to get something special. Such is the case for South Austin Moonlighters, a band that blends blues, americana, soul, rock, and country, who can flip the switch from slow melodic country to gravelly rocking blues without a hitch. Think Allman Brothers meets Band of Heathens with a splash of Joe Ely and you start to peel away the many musical layers of sound that makes up the Moonlighters. The band consists of Lonnie Trevino Jr. on bass & vocals, Phil Hurley on guitar & vocals, Phil Bass on drums & vocals, and Chris Beall on guitar & vocals. Using a four part harmony at times accompanied with some brilliant guitar playing, S.A.M. plays with a full-bodied sound and puts off an aura of down to earth southern rock/blues that can make even coldest days seem warm.

The South Austin Moonlighters stopped by Studio 1A on Wednesday and played us some of their music, they will be playing at the Cactus Cafe tonight (Thursday, February 4th) so make sure to get tickets while you can! You can also stream their music here on KUTX.
