The Eastern Sea 1.25.17

Austin “Folk & Roll” group The Eastern Sea sounds like a polished, mature garage band. Which is essentially what it is. Founded in 2005 by frontman Matthew Hines as a bedroom project that eventually morphed into a band, The Eastern Sea has become a staple in Austin’s indie scene. The songs are rooted in real life experiences, pairing folk inspired textures with Hines’ soft tenor to create a unique and inviting sound. Recently the group has been working with Brian Cassidy of Okkerville River and his non-profit label Wren & Shark to release a post-inauguration compilation album, sharing the bill with the likes of S. Carey (of Bon Iver), Jonathan Meiburg (of Shearwater,) Will Johnson, Lowland Hum, Will Courtney, and more. The best part: All proceeds are going to Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC,) one of the nation’s leading environmental non-profits. Check out The Eastern Sea and Brian Cassidy at their Studio 1A session below!
